October, as many of you know is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Here are some things to be aware of:
- 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.
- One woman every 2 ½ minutes will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
- It is estimated that in 2010 there will be 209,060 new cases reported of breast cancer, both men and women. 40,230 of those diagnosed will not survive.
These are startling statistics!
BUT…Massage Therapy can help in many ways! READ ON…
While there are differences between regular and medicinal massage, a recent Prevention magazine article cited that 20 percent of all cancer patients in the U.S. seek some form of massage therapy. Massage has been known to help easy anxiety, depression, stress and nausea. Massage is in no way a preventative measure or a treatment, and any cancer patient should get appropriate clearance from his/her healthcare provider prior to scheduling an appointment. It is however an option. Treatments for cancer can be brutal and painful and life draining..literally. Massage Therapy gives the patient a chance to get “reacquainted” with feeling alive again…feeling a bit relaxed and centered again..instead of attacked or violated, which often arises with multiple treatment options.
In addition to helping the patient ease some of the symptoms associated with Cancer Treatments, C. C. Baker Massage will be doing their part as well during October/Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For EVERY massage booked in the month of October, 15% will be donated to Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. I urge you to do your part by booking an appointment TODAY. Not only will you feel better but others will too. If you know anyone currently suffering from cancer, breast or otherwise, please feel free to offer them my information. I am currently undergoing training to work specifically with cancer patients and I would be honored to help them with therapeutic massage.
Thank you for your support and BOOK that appointment TODAY!
